What is Faith? The definition of faith is “complete trust or confidence in someone or something.” We put our trust in a lot of things, one example being airplanes/pilots. We trust them completely to do what they say that they can do… and I’ve never once asked a pilot if I can help him do his job of flying the plane better. I have faith that he will do what he says he can do.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

My word for this year is focus and I have been challenged a lot lately with all the many different things that are going on in my life. I am super thankful that I have made the habit of doing devotions each and every morning to help keep my focus where it needs to be.

In my lifetime, now more than ever, we seem to have a country in turmoil, there is craziness and danger everywhere, and slander seems to be the norm. It makes me angry sometimes. It makes me feel powerless…like there’s nothing I can do. But there are answers found in Scripture.

This week as we have talked about self-control & self-discipline, one verse that should bring comfort to all believers can be found in 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

One verse that has provided me courage and truth in times of hardship can be found in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

This week we are going to focus on self-control and self-discipline. While the dictionary definitions of these words make them almost interchangeable, there are some slight differences in how these words can be interpreted in the English language...
