Thursday Thought - Does God REALLY forgive me of my sins?
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
It is a natural question that people ask themselves in relation to the God of the Bible. "Does God REALLY forgive me of my sins?" And it usually comes with other thoughts or self-talk that sounds like this: "I've done really bad things...how can anyone forgive me?", or "I said I wouldn't sin anymore, and then I sinned again. How and why would God forgive me?"
Well, we can only go off what God's holy word says in the Bible to find our answers. And here is some of God's word:
- 1 John 1:9 - 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- Psalm 103:12 - 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
- Isaiah 1:18 - 18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool."
- Colossians 2:13-14 - 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
There are so many other verses that show God extends grace, patience, forgiveness, and restoration to us over and over again. I believe we can trust God's word and believe that if we come to Him with a truly repentant heart, He will forgive us of our sins.
