Friday Devotional - Childlike Faith
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
When you were young, you relied on what your parents told you to be true. God, however, exhorts us to have childlike faith.
Matthew, 18:1-518 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”2 He called a little child to him and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
I was reading that text and wondered, "I'm an adult; what does he mean that he wants us to become like a little child or you will never enter the kingdom of heaven?" I believe that the holy spirit talked to me, and usually when he does, it was for a little period of time. Well, as I was getting ready for the day, the Holy Spirit gave me a revelation. It was as follows.
There was a dad and his son. One day the dad said to the son “Son, one day the skies will light up with bright beautiful colors”. The son was excited by this news, and he asked his dad when it will happen, the dad said, “you will know”. So, the son went outside and grabbed his folding chair and waited, nothing happened that day. Then the next day he goes outside and waits again, still nothing. Well, this continued for 2 weeks and still nothing. The son is starting to get frustrated and comes inside and tells his dad that he trusted that nothing had happened yet. So, the dad said again it’s going to happen, soon, and it will be amazing. So, the son gets excited again and runs outside having faith in what his dad said. He waited, and waited, and waited. He waited for months and months, kids even teased him, and even asked him what you are looking at. The son responded to the kids and said, “my dad said the skies are going to light up and beautiful color soon”. Still nothing happens, so the son gave up and lost faith and trust in his father. So, then the 4th of July rolls around. The dad and son grab their things and head outside at night to watch the fireworks. The son was amazed and in aww of the lights and colors. Just then his dad bends down and says to the son “See I told you the sky was going to light up with beautiful colors”. Then son looked at his dad in shock he finally got it. It was nothing like the boy imagined, he had a different image in mind. The son lost faith for a little while, but the father never went back on his word.
God asks us to walk in faith and to believe that he has a purpose for us. although the plan is still hidden from us. God commanded that we should put our faith in him.
