Friday Devotional - After the High

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
Big events bring big energy. Whether it was a spiritual mountaintop experience, a major accomplishment, or a hard-won victory, we often come away feeling full—yet quickly, we may feel empty. The adrenaline fades. The crowd leaves. Life returns to “normal.”
And sometimes, so does discouragement…so comes a potential let down.
But here’s the truth: God is just as present after the event as He was during it.
Biblical Example: Elijah After Mount Carmel
Read: 1 Kings 19:3-5
After Elijah called down fire from heaven and defeated the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel—a huge spiritual victory—he ran into the wilderness, discouraged and afraid.
Why? Because emotional highs are often followed by emotional lows. Elijah felt alone, depleted, and overwhelmed. But God didn’t rebuke him—He refreshed him.
God sent an angel to bring him food, rest, and strength for the journey ahead. The same is true for us. Even when we’re tired after doing good, God sees us. He tends to our soul.
Here are three truths to hold on to:
1. Rest is Not Failure
Jesus often withdrew to quiet places after big moments (Mark 6:31). Rest is not quitting—it’s part of your faithfulness.
2. Your Effort Matters Even When You Can’t See the Results
Maybe you didn’t get the feedback you hoped for. Maybe it didn’t feel “as big” as you expected. Remember: God measures obedience, not applause. Seeds were planted.
3. There’s More Ahead
Philippians 1:6 says, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” What happened wasn’t the end—it was just one chapter. Let the momentum move you.
