Friday Devotional - God is the Meaning
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Solomon, the son of King David, was given extraordinary wisdom and wealth by God (1 Kings). Instead of asking for power or riches, he asked for wisdom—and God gave him wisdom, honor, and more. In books like Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, and Song of Solomon, Solomon wrestles with one big question: What is the point of life?
His conclusion is blunt—without God, everything is empty. Life feels repetitive, temporary, and ultimately ends in death. No matter what he pursued, nothing satisfied:
- Wisdom → increases sorrow (Eccl. 1:17–18)
- Pleasure → doesn’t fulfill (2:1–2)
- Success & work → temporary and driven by comparison (2:4–11; 4:4)
- Wealth → never enough (5:10)
Even worse, everything we build is left behind when we die. Life often feels unfair, unpredictable, and outside our control—but it all operates on God’s timing, not ours (Eccl. 3).
So what’s the answer?
Solomon says to remember God early, enjoy the simple gifts He’s given, and live with eternal perspective. Eat, drink, work, love your family—these are gifts from God. But don’t look to them for ultimate fulfillment.
Final conclusion (Eccl. 12:13–14):
- Fear God and obey Him
- Trust that He understands what we don’t
- True fulfillment doesn’t come from success, money, or pleasure—it comes from God
The point of life: know God, live for Him, and lead others to Him.
