Monday Mission - Get in the Car

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

Monday Mission
Blue car parked by a lake with a small dog sitting in the open driver’s window against distant hills and cloudy sky

Our dog is always excited to get in the car. Whether is is a 2-minute drive across town, a 20-minute drive to the vet, or an 8 hour road-trip to visit family she is bolting out the door ready to go - trusting that whoever is driving will get her there safely and has her best interest in mind.

I wish I had that same level of trust and excitement for the journey God is taking me on. Often times, before I lean into God’s guidance I want to know where we are going. How long it will take? How uncomfortable or comfortable will I be? Will there be snacks? Will I get a break?

As Christians our faith in God and trust in his direction for our lives should look a lot more like my dog's faith in my driving abilities:

  1. When God calls us, we should be eager to go! This doesn’t mean we are always going to enjoy the work God is calling us to, but we should be able to look past our physical discomfort and trust God is using us for the work of his kingdom - and for that we should be eager & not delay. “I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.” -Psalm 119:60

  2. Our driver (God) will get us there safely.  While not every task/journey you are called on will be easy or enjoyable, we can trust that God will not abandon us. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you“- Deuteronomy 31:6. You might face hardships, but nothing God hasn’t prepared you for. “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” -1 Corinthians 10:12-14

  3. We should trust that even if we don’t know the final destination, God does and is working in our best interest - even if the road to that final destination is long & difficult. He does not take us through challenges without reason. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” - Romans 8:28

God doesn’t call us to make the road-trip plans or scout the best final destination - he simply calls us to go!

Be eager & diligent in obedience, trust your loving driver, and get in the car!
