Thursday Thought - Childlike Faith
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
This past Sunday our sermon was focused on children. The children of our church presented their Christmas program, singing and speaking parts directing us to focus on Jesus as we quickly approach Christmas. Jesus instructs us to have a childlike faith, Mark 10:13-16, but what does that really look like?
Too look at what Jesus might mean by this, lets' take a quick look at how children are different from adults. Here are a few things that come to mind:
Curiosity and Excitement - the girl pictured here is excited to experience the snow. Based on the tracks in the snow she's the first one out there. No thought of a winter coat, mittens, boots, just ready to go!
Dependence and Trust - Children trust their parents and are dependent upon them completely for their needs.
Amazement - with no preset expectations, children are easily amazed and awed.
Acceptance - positions in society aren't recognized by children, they accept others and aren't quick to judge.
It's easy to see how God would want us to have a faith like that of children. Excitement for what God is doing, curiosity to ask and learn, dependence to rely on God to care for us, trust that comforts and brings peace, amazement for how great God is, and a belief that he is who he says he is.
As we get ready to celebrate Christmas, may you approach the holiday with childlike faith. Celebrating, trusting and resting in the Messiah who came to save us all.
