Thursday Thoughts - Entertaining Angels
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Hebrew 13:2 is one of those verses that fills me with such excitement and mystery. It almost seems like a moment the author is teasing us a bit by not providing more details...
"Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." -Hebrews 13:2
Now I don't know about you, but when I read that verse I immediately want to jump down to the cliff notes and find all the details and examples the author has to share about angels showing up and unknowingly being served! Unfortunately, the author did not go on to share any examples.
Coming to Pizza Ranch Support Center after working 4 years in the restaurant, this verse holds a special meaning to me. I once had an individual challenge me by saying, "If you knew an angel was walking in the doors of your Pizza Ranch, how would you make that experience better?" If creatures that dwell in the presence of God walked into your place of work, wouldn't you want to give them the BEST experience possible? When I worked in the restaurant I would often think, if an angel walked in, would my buffet look good enough to serve to HEAVENLY beings? Is my dining room clean and welcoming for those who are used to feasting in heaven?
We are called to be hospitable to all those we interact with, but that can be easier said than done. Being reminded of the truth in Hebrew 13 has helped frame my mindset to truly give every guest (and maybe some angels) a legendary experience!
