So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

I’m slowly making my way through the Bible via The Bible Recap. The other day my reading was Numbers 23 – 25; long story short, a Price of Moab named Balak wanted to curse the Israelites instead of allowing them to pass through his land on their way to the Promised Land of Canaan as he was afraid that his people would be defeated by the sheer number of Israelites, just as they had done to some neighboring nations. Balak essentially hired a sorcerer named Balaam to proclaim this curse on the Israelites to prevent this potential attack from happening.

But then God…. God spoke to Balaam and even though he was a sorcerer who engaged with evil spirits, God still used Balaam to carry out His good plans for the Israelites by having him bless the Israelites instead of cursing them.

Although Balaam’s story doesn’t end so well, I find it fascinating and reassuring that God really does use people who we wouldn’t expect to show His glory to people. Even those who engage with evil spirits, or even those in our community who we can’t see having a positive impact, or even those who we don’t think have any good bones in their body.

No one is too far from God’s plan and reach to not be used by Him. We also get the choice to continue to walk in obedience along the path God lays out for us or if we want to go our own way like Balaam eventually decided to do. God is always waiting and wanting to use us; may we desire Him and His purposes above anything that we may want on our own.
