Thursday Thoughts - Eternal Rewards
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
In Matthew 25, Jesus told a parable about a man who went on a long journey to be crowned king and left his servants in charge of his estate. He left one of his servants with five bags (or talents) of silver, the second with two, and the third with one. After a long time, the king returned home to call his servants to account for how they’d managed his property. The first two servants doubled what they were given. The king was very pleased and gave them more responsibilities. But the third servant hadn’t done anything with his talent except bury it in the ground. Let’s just say the king was not very happy with this. But at least the servant didn’t lose the silver, right? Well, when the king saw how lazily this servant had acted, he took his one talent and gave it to the one who’d doubled five talents. Many of us have heard the term “if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.” Well, it certainly worked that way for the lazy servant in this example. Each one of us has been entrusted by God with specific talents and gifts that He expects us to multiply. We may not all be given the same amount or type of gifts as those around us, but God’s not focused on that as much as on how we make good use of those gifts. Don’t discount the talent you’ve been entrusted with, because at the end of the day, what matters is what you did with it, not its starting size.
