Thursday Thoughts – Got Fruit?
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
The Apostle Paul spends much of the book of Galatians discussing the freedom we have when we live by God’s Spirit, and how trying to live by the Law of the Old Covenant is futile. In keeping with other plant-based metaphors in Scripture, Paul tells us what kind of fruit we bear when we keep in step with the Spirit:
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
- Galatians 5:22-25
When we walk with God, our old self dies, and we bear the fruit of the Spirit.
Let’s look again at those attributes of the fruit of the Spirit:
- Love
- Joy
- Peace
- Patience
- Kindness
- Goodness
- Faithfulness
- Gentleness
- Self-Control
Let’s take a moment and ask ourselves, “What kind of fruit am I producing?”
Could a person look at my life and know I’ve been spending time with Jesus, or would my actions suggest otherwise?
