Tuesday Truth : Who Do You Listen To?
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Our passage of study this week talks about two messengers - one who was prepared and one who was unprepared. This story can be found in 2 Samuel 18:19-33. This story takes place during the reign of King David. His Son Absalom had rebelled and tried to take over his Father’s Kingdom. David’s Army had just defeated Absalom in battle and Absalom had died.
Even if you read the passage yesterday, I encourage you to read it again to see what else sticks out to you today! 2 Samuel 18:19-33
Yesterday we talked about God’s timing and how just because you feel physically prepared for a task doesn’t necessarily mean that God is ready to use you how you hope. But there are more lessons we can learn from this passage, one being, listen to the wise council around you.
Joab knew David loved his son and would grieve his loss. That’s why Joab choose to send the Cushite - to avoid King David carrying any resentment towards an Israelite who shared the news with him. Joab tried to spare Ahimaaz the embarrassment and pain of sharing that news with David, but Ahimaaz was stubborn - insisting on his own way.
Don’t allow your pride and stubbornness to blind you from good Godly wisdom. Hopefully you are blessed to have a few or maybe several wise believers around you. Prayerfully consider their wise council, even if it is uncomfortable to hear or humbling. God often uses those around us as His mouthpiece through the Holy Spirit.
“The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice” - Proverbs 12:15
