What is true wisdom—the kind that comes from above and not from earthly ambition? What does it look like? How does it differ from what the world tells us wisdom is?

Staying in James this week, we read further down in James 3:16–18:

“For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”

True wisdom does not come from envy or selfish ambition at the expense of others. Wisdom is considerate, submissive, and full of mercy and good fruit. Wisdom is not impatient, but patient. Wisdom is not fake, but impartial and sincere.

Don’t let the world define wisdom for you. Instead, learn the truth about wisdom from the Bible. Discover what it really looks like in God’s eyes through our perfect teacher, Jesus Christ.
