Friday Devotional - Peace in the Midst of Rumors

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” – Matthew 24:6 (NIV)
We live in a world where the headlines often echo fear—news of conflict, threats, and tension fill our screens daily. Jesus, in speaking to His disciples, prepared them (and us) for such a time. He warned not just of wars, but of the rumors—the whisperings of chaos, the fear of what could happen.
What’s striking is not that Jesus acknowledged these things, but that He commanded: “See to it that you are not alarmed.”
Fear is a natural reaction to uncertainty. But Jesus invites us to live supernaturally—with a peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7), even when the world trembles.
We are not promised a life without conflict or pain, but we are promised His presence in the midst of it. Our hope is not in political stability or global peace, but in the unshakable kingdom of God (Hebrews 12:28). As the world quakes, we anchor ourselves not in headlines, but in His Word.
Christians are called to be a voice of calm in a storm of fear. While the world spreads rumors, we spread truth. While others panic, we pray. And while many despair, we hope—not in the absence of war, but in the return of the Prince of Peace.
Prayer: Lord, when the world stirs with anxiety and the noise of war surrounds us, quiet our hearts with Your peace. Remind us that You are in control, that nothing surprises You, and that our future is in Your hands.
