Monday Mission - Stop "Phubbing"
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Devotional by Jenna Finkenhoefer
Last Monday, Kelsey invited us to spend 15 minutes a day of intentional family time- no phones or distractions. The timing of her message was impeccable, as over the weekend I had a long conversation with a friend about “phubbing” ie; phone-snubbing, or, ignoring human interaction in lieu of screen time.
Phubbing has become an increasing epidemic in our lives. Did you know, when a phone is visible, people instinctively avoid deep, meaningful, or highly personal topics? Because a phone signals a constant threat of interruption, people subconsciously stick to trivial matters where being interrupted won't hurt as much. When we put down our phones and pay attention to those around us, we are following God’s plan to have compassion, connection and empathy with others.
This week, I invite you to build on Kelsey’s challenge, and to make an effort to stop yourself from phubbing others, and to start to focus on having meaningful connections instead.
