Monday Mission - Study the Prophetic Books
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
There are 17 books in the Bible written by prophets of God. Additionally, the New Testament book of Revelation is often considered a prophetic book. Prophetic books share God's vision of future things that happened after they were written, or are yet to happen. But they can be really difficult to read and understand, sometimes being downright confusing. So what is one to do? Avoid them, because they are hard? May it never be!
At Pizza Ranch a group of folks have been using the Through the Word app to help us understand the prophetic books of the Bible. Having a 10-20 minute lesson from a pastor really helps understand the words of these books before actually reading/listening to them. For me personally, that has really brought clarity and understanding to the prophetic books (listed below), especially Isaiah and Revelation.
Other forms of help that one can use to better understand the prophetic books of the Bible are commentaries written by reputable people, a Precept Ministries Bible Study, or listening to pastors like Chuck Swindoll or Allistair Begg.
Be encouraged. Don't back away from the prophetic books. Lean into them to better understand who God is, who we are in His eyes, and understand what He will bring to us in the future.
Amen
