Monday Mission - The Purpose of "Wintering"
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Devotional by Jenna Finkenhoefer
I’m writing this a few weeks ahead of time, while we are in the midst of a mid-March blizzard in the Midwest. This time of year is a challenge for me to stay positive, especially when winter seems to drag on forever. Earlier this year I read “Wintering” by Katherine May, it’s an inspirational read I’ve picked up again and again during this season.
The concept of wintering, or, purposefully taking time in our lives to embrace quiet periods of rest, reflection and regeneration during life’s cold periods, has been on my mind frequently this season. It has helped me to accept these darker, quieter times in life and to appreciate the purpose of allowing time for spiritual rest and retreat in preparation for mental and spiritual renewal.
I hope you also take some time this week as we approach the final days of “wintering” in preparation for Easter…and that by time you read this, Spring is truly on the way!
