Thursday Thoughts - Doing or Hearing?

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

-James 1:22-25

Am I a doer or a hearer?

Am I reading the Bible to “check my box” for the day, or am I reading to see what God has for me to do?

All too often, I get so caught up in taking in Christian content that I forget why I need it in the first place.

What about you? Have you ever found yourself so caught up in your routine then realize you forgot to actually go out and apply all that information you’ve been consuming?

The Bible says to love our neighbor, but when was the last time we went out of our way to bless someone? Jesus said to be His witnesses, but when was the last time we talked with someone about Him, or invited them to church? The Bible says to not be anxious and to submit our thoughts to Christ, but how often do we hang onto them anyway and try to figure things out on our own?

Today, as we read God’s word, let’s consider how we will actively apply what we learn.
