Thursday Thoughts - Preparation in Waiting
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
God has a purpose for every season in our life including times of waiting. But waiting doesn’t mean wasting time. God is using this time to help you grow and prepare for the next season He is bringing you into.
To illustrate this, I want to look back on our buddy Joseph we studied on Tuesday. In Genesis 39 we learn how during his enslavement to Potiphar, Joseph worked hard, and the Lord blessed his work. Joseph was eventually entrusted to manage all of Potiphar’s household.
After being thrown in prison, Joseph worked hard, and the Lord blessed his work. Eventually the Jailer placed him in charge of the entire prison to oversee the responsibilities and other prisoners (Genesis 40).
Then when Joseph interprets a dream for Pharaoh, Pharaoh ends up making Joseph his advisor and placing him in charge of managing all of Egypt’s assets to help the country thrive through a famine (Genesis 41).
If Joseph had not had experience managing Potiphar’s house & assets, or managing the jail and its’ assets, how would he have learned to manage Egypt and all of its’ assets? God took Joseph through some painful times of waiting and hard work to help him develop the skills to be successful and help save not only Egypt, but his own brothers that sold him into slavery, and the line of Christ from a famine!
Remember, if God has brought you into a season of waiting, there is work to be done. God is preparing you for the next step right now. He is preparing you for the promotion, motherhood, homeownership, ect in in your day-to-day life right now. Serve Him faithfully, work hard, use your God-given gifts, let God mold you, and do not waste the time you have been given in the gift of waiting.
