Tuesday Truth - Doing Hard Things is Good

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

Tuesday Truths
A person in a gray shirt and pants pushes a large boulder on a rocky desert landscape with sparse vegetation and distant low hills.

I have 3 Young Boys, 3 Young Boys who I hope will grow up to be better, stronger and smarter than their Father. I push them and challenge them constantly. This summer I put together a workout program for them to complete. 4x a week for 10 weeks they were to run 1 mile, do 25 pushups and 50 sit-ups. In total they would run 40 miles, do 1,000 pushups and 2,000 sit-ups. If they were successful and didn't miss any workouts I would give them each a bit of cash they could do whatever they wanted with. I can proudly say that the Boys cashed out end of the summer. There were certainly weeks where it was tougher than others and only a few workouts occurred without a "Dad...Do I have to?" before it. However, they endured and were successful in their plan.

The best part?

The best part wasn't seeing them work hard and succeed or even seeing their spirits lift as I handed them the cash at the end of the summer. The best part for me, as a Dad, was when my oldest told me with a big proud smile on his face that they had "physical testing" in gym class the other day and that he did the most sit-ups and pushups of anyone in his class. It was in that moment that my oldest truly felt the benefit of hard work. Sure, I know he enjoyed getting the cash, but the dots truly connected for him at a deeper level that hard work will lead to good things.
