Friday Devotional-How Deep the Father's Love for Us
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Songs and music are my worship language and help bring me closer to God. One of my favorite songs for the Easter Season that has been on my heart lately is “How the Deep the Father’s love for Us” by Stuart Townend. This year this song has even deeper meaning for me as I recently lost my dad. This song brings comfort in knowing the realization of what Jesus’s sacrifice means.
In a post by Jodie Barrett, on a site called Sweet to the Soul Ministries, she outlines some relative Bible verses that coincide with the key phrases from this amazing song. I love when scripture and songs intertwine and bring deeper reflection!
From the first stanza to the last I am reminded of Christ and His sacrifice upon the cross. There is no deeper love!
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:5-6
Maybe like me, music is your worship language too! Maybe you have some hymns and songs that intertwine with scriptures that help bring deeper meaning and reflection for you and help draw you into God’s presence? This Easter season, stop to reflect and see if you have a song come to your heart. Ask yourself if there is a scripture or two hiding within the lyrics and reflect on the message God is bringing to you within this!
