My last visit to Manchester, Iowa Pizza Ranch occurred on May 14, 2023. We had three seniors, who were not given the Senior Advantage discount until we asked about it, in our party. There were two autistic children, one who also suffers from social anxiety (which makes it difficult to be in large crowds). A call to the business requesting to reserve the party room netted in our being told, "We don't take reservations on Mother's Day or Father's Day because those are our busiest days and we need every seat. It is a first come, first served basis if you want to sit in the party room". Not one word was stated about the party room being used by other customers, so we understood we just had to get to the room first in order to use it for our group. We did get to the PR early and were able to get to the party room in the front half of the space. After speaking with the manager/owner, Alaina, explaining our situation and those in our party, she agreed to close the folding door but had us sit in the back half...which was difficult for two of the senior citizens in our party who have mobility issues and are on oxygen, because of the distance they were forced to walk to get to the space we were seated in. Trying to explain that to the owner, I was told "I understand. I'm a Christian and this is a Christian business" which had no bearing on the issue of disabled people being disrespected and treated unfairly. The owner referenced many times during our conversation that this is one of their busiest days and they need every seat from the time they open until they close. I explained we would be there long enough to eat and then leave if she would allow that. She agreed, but didn't follow through with that as other customers were allowed in the room during the hour time frame she agreed to, and due to the extreme distress of the person in our party who has social anxiety and the torment he was being subjected to by other customers the owner allowed at the closest table, three of the people in our party had to leave about 15 minutes after they arrived, and before eating a meal that was paid for. The owner NEVER offered an apology to us, NEVER admitted to being dishonest about us using the room for a short time, and NEVER offered a refund for meals we did not eat! This USED to be a favorite place for us to gather for meals, birthdays, and other celebrations, but we will NOT return and will be reporting our experience to the Disability Rights Iowa board. This treatment should NOT occur and likely would not have occurred if the business is reputable and treated ALL customers ethically.
