Monday Mission - Start Small
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
We are almost through the first month of the 2024 calendar. Many people set goals for the year, or decided on January 1st they would commit to some new "never again" or "always forever" resolution. And for some, those goals and commitments have already failed. Well, don't beat yourself up and don't give up. Instead, refocus and start small.
Is "starting small" Biblical in it's direction? I believe so.
In Genesis chapter 1, God creates everything, including vegetation. Think about a bell pepper. With 1 bell pepper seed, you grow a plant. And 4 months later the plant will grow about 7 bell peppers. Inside each of those is about 150 seeds. So with 1 seed, about 4 months later you will have 1,050 seeds. Then if you planted those you would have 1,050 plants that each make 7 peppers, and you would have about 7,000 peppers for a total of about 80,000 seeds. You an see that after starting "small" you can quickly have many.
God told Abraham he would be the father of many children., and his descendants numbering more than the stars in heaven. As of 2023, there are an estimated 15.7 million Jewish people in the world today. It started from one man.
There are 2.3 billion humans in the world who consider themselves "Christian". That is a HUGE number. Yet the early church started with only a dozen apostles and a couple handfuls of believers.
When it comes to things like "I will memorize bible verses", or "I will lose weight", or "I will read 1 book per month", or "I will give this much food to the hungry"....please remember to start small and stick with it. Don't beat yourself up for not climbing a mountain in one day. Take it one step at a time and start small.
