Thursday Thought - Giving Thanks
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
In his powerful book "The Knowledge of the Holy", A.W. Tozer opens by making the statement "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." He goes on to summarize that many modern Christians have a low view of God and attempt to "fit" God into their understanding of Him and their life when they need Him. Whereas Christians SHOULD see God as almighty, indescribable, a creator of an entire universe much less our planet and everything in it. When we consider God and what He has done we should be struck in total and complete awe, therefore falling to the ground facedown in praise and total surrender to an all-powerful God.
During this Thanksgiving season when you stop to consider the things you are thankful for does God enter your mind? The fact that God created you in the first place, and then because of His great love for you He sent His only true Son to die a terrible death and then resurrect Him so that those who believe in Jesus would spend eternal life with God. When you have the ability to help another person out in life, do you stop and consider that God has made it so that YOU are the person who is in a position to be the helper and NOT the person needing the help? When you are enjoying a meal or some entertainment by yourself or with others, are you stopping to consider that 2,000 years ago God in His mighty and loving way allowed His Son Jesus to eat a meal with friends and one would later turn Him over to be killed? All so that you could spend eternity with God in heaven?
This Thanksgiving season remember to give thanks to the God who creates, loves, and saves. And consider what comes to mind when you think about God as you go about your days.
