Friday Devotional - Be Anxious for Nothing
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Have you ever felt anxious? I encourage you to get Max Lucado’s book “Anxious For Nothing” (FINDING CALM in a CHAOTIC WORLD). In Max Lucado’s book, Max reminds us that even Christians are not exempt from worry. Not only do we feel anxious, but we also feel guilty about our anxiety! The result is a downward spiral of worry, guilt, worry, guilt. It’s enough to cause a person to get anxious.
The apostle Paul reminds us to be anxious for nothing…Is this what he meant? Not exactly. “It’s the life of perpetual anxiety that Paul wanted to address”.
The presence of anxiety is unavoidable, but the prison of anxiety is optional. Anxiety is not a sin, it’s an emotion. Anxiety can lead to sinful behavior.
Read Philippians 4:4-8
“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say, rejoice!”
Max gives us a great reminder to use these verses:
C.A.L.M. Celebrate. Ask. Leave. Meditate.
- Celebrate God’s goodness. “Rejoice in the Lord always” (v.6)
- Ask God for help. “Let your requests be made known to God” (v.6.)
- Leave your concerns with him. “With thanksgiving…” (v.6.)
- Meditate on good things. “Think about the things that are good and worthy of praise.” (V.8 NCV)
Could you use some CALM today? If so, you are not alone. With God as your helper you will sleep better and smile more!
