Friday Devotional - Commitment
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Daniel 3 gives the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and the fiery furnace. The resolve these three had to honor God, even with death looming, is inspirational. Their story shows what it means to make and keep a commitment. What would it take for us to have that kind of resolve? To make that kind of stand for our faith?
- It’s important to make a commitment to the Lord first. It gives us the strength we need to go through the fires in our life. It also becomes an encouragement to the people around us. It literally impacts the world.
- This kind of commitment brings with it a resolve. The resolve and confidence that He’s in control. That He is able to deliver us. We will still go through trials…no doubt. We, too, will have our own fiery furnaces in life. But, He will be there with us in and on the other side of those furnaces.
- The result of our commitment to the Lord: We will be delivered, sometimes before, sometimes in the midst, or sometimes after (after our time on earth). But, ultimately He will deliver us.
May we resolve to be like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego while we follow Him. To have the faith to know that God in in control of all things. And, may the result of our commitment be a resolve to impact the world for His Kingdom.
