Good Vs Evil

We’ve been slowly walking through the Book of Psalms, and this week we’re looking at (Psalm 52). The Psalms do such a great job of talking about the topics and emotions we most often deal with in life.

There’s so much in this chapter, each verse is full of wisdom we can soak in, use, and grab hold of daily. For example, this chapter is about David hiding from Saul, and how Doeg, even with all he had…all his riches, betrayed David for even more.

What stood out to me the most in this passage is David’s fearless confidence in God when under attack by an enemy. King David specifically talks about the difference between Doeg and himself…a good vs. evil kind of thing. Here are 6 contrasts between the two:

  1. David was trusting in the mercy of God (v. 6)…Doeg trusted in riches (v. 7)
  2. David was like a green olive tree in God’s house (v. 8)….Doeg was like a dead tree cast out (v. 5)
  3. David will be blessed forever (v. 8)…Doeg will be cursed forever (v. 5)
  4. David will praise God because of God’s help (v. 9)…Doeg will live in remorse (v. 5)
  5. David waited upon the Lord (v. 9)…Doeg did not (v. 7)
  6. David was a good example for God’s people (v. 9)….Doeg was an example of evil (v. 6-7)

Notice that praying, trusting, praising, waiting are a few things that set David/good apart from Doeg/bad. These things led to eternal blessings. Keep pressing into the Word.

May we each recognize and grab hold of the Truth of Scripture. And then honor and glorify God with what we do with it.
