Friday Devotional- How Then Should We Live
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Guest Post from our Director of Training and Development, Jason L:
As we’ve continued on looking into the book of Acts, God called us to Acts 1:12-14 where we looked into how the disciples carried on after the experiences they had been through in the recent weeks. Verse 14 says they “with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer”. It seemed like a good idea for us to look into exactly what the words “One mind” and “Continually devoting” mean.
We learned that in Greek, the deeper meaning of “one mind” comes out as “shared passion”, which Jason used the comparison of “one mind” is like we all agree to like a football team. But “shared passion” is we’re all out there screaming and cheering for the team. Passion brings a different level of action and emotion to it. In Greek, the deeper meaning of “continually devoting” means “consistently show strength which prevails in spite of difficulties”. Again, the mind and heart see and feel a totally different picture from the original Greek text than the English.
The encouragement was that this Scripture segment came to us at Pizza Ranch, in order, in our study of Acts at the same time Adrie charged us with “having one mind about our future plans”. So, may we all approach this with shared passion and showing strength which will prevail in spite of the difficulties that may come!!! Amen.
