Friday Devotional – In An Instant
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
“Jesus said to the servants, Fill the jars with water; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet. They did so.” (John 2:7-8)
The miracles of Jesus are simply a speeding up of the natural process; a doing instantly something which generally takes a longer period of time. The water did not become milk, nor did it change into coffee or diet coke in this story. It became the best wine they had. What happened in this miracle was something that happens in nature. Jesus just speeds up the elements of time, of growth, gathering, crushing and fermenting, and makes it happen. He takes water—an ordinary, non-living, commonplace substance—and without a word, without any fanfare, without anything big at all, the water becomes wine. Thus he demonstrated his marvelous ability to change life…in an instant.
Jesus can do the same with us. In an instant, he can take the ordinary, monotonous, grind of our common lives…and make it great. Our life can be full of flavor, joy, beauty and strength. Even through the difficult times. He will do this with all who claim and believe in him.
