Friday Devotional - The Promise of Eternal Life
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
When I was a child, our Sunday school teacher told us his definition of forever. It was something I’ve never forgotten. He said, “if a bird flew to the mountains every year, took a bite of the ground, then flew to the ocean and dropped it in, when the mountain finally became flat, that wouldn’t even be the beginning of forever.” I remember thinking that it would take forever for that bird to get that mountain flat. But then I got it, that was the point he was making. Forever is a very, very long time.
Eternal life is one of the great promises from God to those who believe and follow Jesus. It’s found throughout the Bible. John 3:15,16 is just one of many examples. It says, “That everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is a free gift to everyone who will accept it. Eternal life includes, but is not limited to the following list found throughout Revelation 21 & 22:
- God shall wipe away all our tears
- There will be no more death, no more curses
- There will be no more crying or sorrow
- There will be no more pain
- Everything will become like new again
- We will have new life
- We will have sonship/daughtership
- We will inherit all things
- There will be no more darkness
- We’ll see Jesus
- We’ll have the crystal clear water of life
- The Tree of Life will bear 12 kinds of fruit every month
- We shall see His face
- And we will live forever and ever
