Friday Devotional - Why Worship During This Pandemic?
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
What is worship? Worship is bowing before God, putting Him first. Romans 12:1 describes it as a “sacrifice of self.” That we humbly give ourselves up for His Lordship, proclaiming that He is worthy and in control of it all.
How do we worship? We worship Him by reading His Word, praying, singing, thanking, seeing Him in nature, looking to Him, etc. Doing these things is not legalism, it’s called obedience.
Why do we worship? We worship because He created everything (Revelation 4:9-11), every knee will someday bow (Philippians 2:9-11), He’s in charge (1 Chronicles 16:29), Jesus is a suitable sacrifice (1 Peter 1:18-20), God demands us to (Exodus 34:14)…just to name a few examples.
Why worship now? We worship now because God wants our full attention as we live our lives. And He’s making it obvious right now. He wants us to WAKE UP! To STOP before we lose everything. He wants us to come back to him as individuals, as communities, as a nation, and as a world to follow and worship Him. To put Him in His rightful place…1st.
2 Chronicles 7:14-15 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”
God wants relationship with us. He wants us to find peace. He wants us to love Him and others. He wants us to worship Him. He wants us to point people to Jesus.
