It’s so easy to go about our daily lives surrounding ourselves with those that we feel most comfortable with. We surround ourselves with people that look like us, vote like us, believe what we believe, talk like us, etc. It’s comfortable and it’s easy to fall into the routine of going about our lives living in the company of our friends, acquaintances, and family. However, there are so many more relationships out there for us to delve into. Romans 15:5 says, “May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.” This doesn’t just mean our closest friends and family. This means we live in harmony with ALL of God’s creation including ALL off the brothers and sisters of Christ. Make it your mission to step outside your comfort zone and attempt to create a connection with someone who you have nothing in common with. We are called into relationship and fellowship with those people that believe in other things, vote in other ways, and act differently than we do. Mark 10:45 says “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” We are called to serve the “many” among us. We are called to love ALL people of ALL races of ALL religions of ALL nationalities. Get to know someone outside your “comfortable” friend groups!
