Monday Mission - Continuing the Call

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

Monday Mission

In my chronological read through the Bible I just began 2 Kings. Elijah was one of the greatest prophets called by God. He was in step with God from his call until he was taken up directly into heaven (more stories on Elijah this week). Elisha was called to follow Elijah as God's prophet. Elisha answered this and before Elijah was taken, he asked for a double portion of his spirit. God granted this request as Elisha's motives were to accomplish more for God and continue the difficult journey. With this request granted, Elisha knew God would be with him and would also move forward with the lessons from Elijah's life.

This reminds me of several things:

Hebrews 12 where the author reminds us of the great cloud of witnesses around us and urges us to run our race God has marked out for us.

The good kings of Judah who did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in the ways of David.

Timothy following in the faith of his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5).

Many more examples could be listed of people taking up the faith of those before them. Seek out mature Christians and learn from them. Surround yourself with fellow believers who are desiring God. Be an example or mentor for others to follow.

Let us all continue the call of faith and pray for an overflowing of the Holy Spirit that imbues every part of our life and is generously shared with others.
