So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Monday Mission
burnt & collapsed bread
Proof of this baking mishap.

This weekend I decided to make some cinnamon bread. I pulled out my favorite recipe calling for flour, sugar, baking powder, eggs, and milk. I carefully measured and combined the flour, sugar, & baking soda, then mixed in the eggs & milk. I was careful to add the cinnamon swirl of sugar and cinnamon, then placed it in a pan to bake for 60 minutes.

After an hour I opened the over door with horror to see my bread had not baked correctly! The bread had caved in on itself. The center was still soupy, and the outside was burnt to a crisp! What had gone wrong!?! I re-read the recipe trying to figure out what I did wrong. I had the right measurements; the oven was the right temperate; and it cooked for the right amount of time. Did you catch my mistake?

The recipe called for baking POWDER, but I read the recipe as baking SODA. Instead of 3 tsp of baking powder, I added 3 tsp of baking soda. I was trusting my gut going off the fact I had make this recipe dozens of times in the past and wasn’t reading the recipe closely. I made a mistake and the whole soupy burnt loaf needed to be thrown out.

But this little mistake reminded me of how important it is to follow our guidebook for life – the Bible. We can’t lean on our own understanding. It will fail us. Rather we are called to follow Christ’s example and God’s laws written in scripture.

This week’s Monday Mission is a reminder to follow God’s laws and guidance for your life found in scripture!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
