Monday Mission
7 22 test

1 Corinthians 13 is commonly nicknamed “The Love Chapter”. Often read at weddings, this chapter talks all about the nature of love. But before we jump into this famous chapter on love, let’s take a look at 1 John 4:16, “...God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

This verse reminds us that God is love. We also know that Christ as the son of God (both fully God and fully man) is the human embodiment of love. As mentioned in Philippians 2:5, our calling as Christians is to live like Christ. “In your lives, you must think and act like Christ Jesus.”

If you’re thinking to yourself that this article got WAY too deep for a Monday morning before you’ve finished your first cup of coffee, don’t click away just yet.

What exactly does it mean to live like Christ? This is where the Love Chapter Test comes in. Open up your Bible to 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 (or click on this link – it should open in a new browser tab for you so you can flip back & forth between the passage & this post).

  1. First, read through the passage as it is written.
  2. Next, read through the chapter and substitute the name of “Christ” for the word love. This will give you an accurate description of what Christ is like because after all – Christ is love because God is love.
  3. Finally, read through the chapter and replace your own name for the word love. As you read through this version does this sound like an honest description of yourself? Are you patient? Do you always trust? Do you not delight in evil & rejoice in truth?

As you complete The Love Chapter Test, there will probably be areas you are convicted to focus on where you can live more like Christ and be more loving in your life. That is your Monday Mission.
