Monday Mission – Who should I take out for a cup of coffee?
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
At our staff meeting last week, Adrie shared a moving story about two people who were on absolute opposite ends of an issue, and even though they considered the other an enemy, found a way to reach out to each other over a cup of coffee. They listened to each other, and even though they disagreed on the issue, they grew to respect and even love each other. The love grew all the way to the point where one of the people passed away due to cancer and she asked the other to deliver her eulogy at her funeral.
In our culture we have found ourselves polarized to extremes on issues. To the point where we aren’t interested in listening or caring for the people on the other side of the issue. What would happen if we called the person on the other side of our differences and asked them out for a cup of coffee? Just to get to know them as a person and begin to break down the barriers that separate us?
We all have people like this in our lives. Make the call.
