So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

I was shocked earlier this week to read about the continued journey of the US satellite Voyager 1 was still going on after nearly 50 years of activity. It now takes almost 24 hours for a signal to reach the satellite from earth, and that much time for the return signal to be received from Voyager 1. In 2027, the satellite will be 1 light day away from earth. It is already the furthest man-made item away from earth ever. What really blew my mind and reminded me how HUGE God is, was the fact that the closest star to our galaxy is Proxima Centauri. And it will take Voyager 1 74,000 years to reach that star at it's current traveling speed. And that is one star of BILLIONS in our universe.
How big is the God of the Bible? Well, consider this:
- The Earth is about 25,000 miles in circumference.
- A light year is the measurement of the speed of light (186,000 miles per second, or 5.88 trillion miles in a year).
- The furthest distance away from Earth that can be seen from a telescope (aka: the known universe) is 46.5 billion light years away.
What does the Bible say about God in relation to this huge universe?
- In the beginning, God CREATED the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). Was this a big bang? Well, I would like to quote Christian pastor and author Louie Giglio who said "yes! When God created the heavens and the earth, there was probably a big BANG! The Bible says God SPOKE, and all of this was created. So it was probably a very, very, very big BANG!" Think about it. God said "Let there be LIGHT", and he opened His mouth and a bright light traveling at the speed of 186,000 miles per second came out!!!
- What about God's conversation with Job? When God puts Job in his place by saying this to him in Job 38:31 "Can you bind the chains of Pleiades, or loose the cords of Orion?" Well, the Pleiades is a cluster of stars that is about 445 light years away. And stars that make up the constellation Orion's Belt are from 800 to 1,300 light years away. Yet we can see them with our naked eye. AND, God LOOKS DOWN AT US FROM BEYOND THEM, and asks "Can you hold them", as if to mock us because He clearly CAN HOLD THEM in His hands!!!
This same God loves you so much, that He sent His blameless Son to die on a cross for our sins. To pay the just price for our sins, in order for us to be reconciled with God.
