Thursday Thoughts - Mental Health
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
For many, the Holiday season is filled with joy and happiness, while for some it is a lonely time. In today's age the topic of mental health has shifted to the forefront, and I want to encourage anyone dealing with depression, stress, and anxiety to reach out for help. A loved one. A colleague. A counselor. It can be difficult to admit or explain, C.S. Lewis explains:
“Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say ‘My tooth is aching’ than to say ‘My heart is broken.’”
Undoubtedly true. The book of Proverbs tells us, "A nation falls through a lack of guidance, but victory comes through the counsel of many." I've found that in times of anxiety or pain, expression and close counsel relieve a weight off of your shoulders.
