Thursday Thoughts - Mount Carmel
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
How many prophets did Elijah face on Mount Carmel?
450 of Baal's prophets.
The showdown on Mount Carmel is one of my favorite Bible stories. It demonstrates courage by Elijah to continue to follow God and confront sin and evil no matter the odds or how alone he felt. He continued to heed God and call for the people of Israel to turn from their sin, not follow these false prophets, and worship the one true God. Baal did not answer the 450 prophets, no matter how long they tried (I always particularly enjoy when Elijah taunts them). Elijah even stacked the odds further against him by pouring water over his altar, but God answered. The number of prophets, or any odds, do not matter when we are with God. If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
Let's worship our almighty God, live in step with the Spirit, and be filled with courage today!
