Thursday Thoughts - Working for the Lord

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Colossians 3:23-24 is such a great verse. It says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Have you ever thought about how much harder we would work to complete all our tasks if we were doing them all for God Himself? Think about mowing someone’s lawn, helping someone move items out of their flooded basement, or just listening to someone and being there for them in a difficult time. Now, what if we did all of these for Jesus Christ himself? Our mowing job would be perfect. We would have some pep in our step carrying a couch up Jesus’ stairs for Him. We would drop whatever we are doing to come and listen to what Jesus has to say.

In a way though, shouldn’t all we do be to Glorify God? This is what Colossians tells us. The first word in verse 23 is whatever we do. It isn’t with some things you do or if you feel like it… It says, “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” Next time you are working for someone or helping someone out, “work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord!”
