Tuesday Truth - Bind the Word of God

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

Tuesday Truths

This is taken from a devotional I read not too long ago that spoke to me. Some Orthodox Jews would wear a black leather box, called a tefillin, just above their forehead fastened to their head with a leather band. Inside the box they would put the scrolls of the Word of God. It was their way applying a command form the Law, Deuteronomy 11:18, “You shall bind them…as a sign upon your forehead.” This is done as an outward observance, but in looking deeper this can change your life and mind.

What goes on in your mind is the most private part of your life. You can try to do everything right on the outside, but what goes on inside your mind may be the total opposite. When God speaks of binding the Word to your forehead, he’s not talking about the tefillin. He wants us to know that even our thought life can become holy. We need to take the Word of God and bind it to our thought life, our mind, our emotions, our will.

Looking at the word bind, speaks to knitting together. You can knit the Word of God to your thoughts by meditating on it and agreeing with it so that it forms the center of your being. Let the Word lead your emotions and from the Word let your thoughts come forth. Since, your head is what controls your life and if your thoughts are one with God’s Word then so to will be your life.
