Tuesday Truth - Here is how to draw near to God

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Bible references (1 John 3, 2 Chronicles 7:14, 1 John 1:9, Acts 3:19-21)

Sometimes I feel that as I walk my life as a Christian that God is really "close" to me. I feel like I'm seeing things the way God would see them, He is opening doors and closing them, and I'm really feeling great. Other times I feel life is just going through the motions and God "isn't around". Have you ever felt that way?

If so, there are some passages in the Bible that I believe are the answer to why this happens.

  1. God is holy and he sent his Son Jesus as a sacrifice to cleanse us (a dirty human) so that we can even draw near to Him.
  2. By our own merits, we cannot turn from sin. And we cannot clean ourselves. We need God to do the cleaning.
  3. If we confess of our sins and repent (the original word means "to turn" or "turn away from") from committing those sins, then we can be in a place of humbleness before God. We are approaching Him in honesty and fully understanding it is only God who can clean us.
  4. In this, we also show our understanding of, and desire for eternal life (otherwise, why would we even care to confess or change if not for eternity?).
  5. By doing this, God fans the flame of the Holy Spirit that lives within Christians. The Spirit will use God's holy Word (The Bible) to then instruct our conscience and subconscious in how to rightly live.
  6. This also will encourage more hope for eternal life and we will be more open to God's work within us.
  7. Now the result is a minute, or 15 minutes, or an hour, or a day, or a week, or longer....where we are living in step with God our Father. As we continue to confess, repent, and pray we continue to drive this cycle and we draw near to God. And in this, God draws near to us Himself and through His Holy Spirit.
