Do Not Love the World
This is one of the most difficult instructions that a Christian might have. It is so hard to battle the desires to "have" things. Those things can be education, jobs, entertainment, and so much more. This passage really truly is asking Christians to put the most love towards the Father. The most time, the most energy, the most resources, the most everything. I'm convicted of how many times I've fallen short of this command. May we all pray for each other to put our love towards God the Father over all things of this world.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[c]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
