Tuesday Truth - Power, Love, & Self-Discipline

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

One verse that has provided me courage and truth in times of hardship can be found in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

As a believer who has struggled through seasons of anxiety, I can remember many times that my life felt crimpled by my fear of “what’s-ifs” and unknowns. This verse has served as a reminder for me that those feelings of fear, timidity, and scrambling to control the uncontrollable did not from God. Those emotions and feelings came from my sinful human nature and lies that were whispered to me by the great deceiver, Satan.

This verse assures us that the Spirit we are given from God – The Holy Spirit which dwells in the hearts and minds of believers - is one of power, love, and self-discipline. Through the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives, we are given the power to live like Christ. We are given a spirit of love to care for those around us and show compassion. And we are given a spirit of self-discipline that allows us to resist temptation in our lives.

I hope this verse provides you with confidence that you are well-equipped to strive to live like Christ through the Holy Spirit’s presence in you.
