10 years ago, I was dealing with some very serious health issues, and going through a period where I felt like I just couldn’t catch a break. Bad news continued to pile up on top of bad news. I was festering in a pool of sadness and negativity that I couldn’t seem to find my way out of. One of my mentors at the time suggested taking an empty jar, and every time something good happened to me, no matter how large or small, to write it down on a slip on paper and tuck it in the jar. By the end of the year- I filled that jar with thankfulness, and was able to take time on tough days to reflect back on the good things that had occurred.

I’m not saying we ignore the tough stuff in life…but for me, simply choosing to be more aware and mindful of when good things happened, even during the tough times, I was able to approach life with more thankfulness, praise and grace.

Psalm 95:2 (ESV)

“Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with song
