Friday Devotional- The Great Gift
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
At the Pizza Ranch Support Center we’ve been working our way through the Book of Acts during our weekly prayer time. Since starting Acts 1, we’ve been anticipating the arrival of the great gift that Jesus said would be coming. That great gift is the arrival of the Holy Spirit; the gift that would live in, around, and flow out of all those who claim Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
In Acts 2 we see the Holy Spirit finally arriving, and it arrives like a scene from a movie. Can you imagine?
- They HEARD the sound of a mighty rush of wind. It was loud!
- They SAW what looked like tongues of fire landing on the believers. What a sight that would have been!
- They were able to SPEAK in the same languages of whoever they were speaking to.
- Acts 4:31 adds that they FELT shaking.
When the Holy Spirit enters those who receive Christ, lives change forever, but it probably isn’t an experience like found in Acts 2. It more than likely won’t be that dramatic. Although I have heard some powerful, life changing testimonies from people in the past. I know many lives that were changed in an instant and in miraculous ways. I also know many who didn’t have anything necessarily “spectacular” happen. Everyone has different experiences when the Holy Spirit penetrates their heart at conversion. These differing experiences are also true as we live out our lives on a daily basis as a believer.
So, the experience is not the main thing. The main thing is the truth that God is with us all the time through the work of the Holy Spirit. He’s in, around, and flows out of us all in different ways. The Holy Spirit is anything of eternal value in this life and eternity. The Holy Spirit gives power, is our helper, our comfort, our intercessor, our counselor, our conscience, our strength, our teacher, and it helps us to pray and confess our sins.
May we use the gift of the Holy Spirit to glorify God in our lives and in our businesses. May we spread the good news locally, regionally, and throughout the world.
