Have you ever gone on a trip where you didn’t have to plan anything? There were no worries, except to show up and enjoy. Each day brought a new adventure. Everything was carefully planned out by whoever set it up…maybe a tour guide. All you had to be, was willing to follow. That sounds really good to me.

I’ve spent a lot of time in my life planning. And don’t get me wrong, planning is part of our lives. As I plan, and as I head into my days, with all its situations that come with it, I often pray, “Lord, help me as I move forward with this,” or “God, I need you to help me in this situation,” or “Father, I need your help.” But something God has been teaching me more recently again, is that it’s not just about my plans and needs, it’s about His. So lately, I’ve been praying “Lord, how do I fit into your plans for the day,” or “God, what do you need and want from me today,” or “Father, who should I talk to?

Wouldn’t it be great if we could live each day with this kind of balance in our planning? Instead of trying to make things happen ourselves during the day, we were able to simply let go a little and enjoy what God has planned for us as we go? That we could fit into His plans as we do our work. To be tuned into the nudges we get from Him. We can literally live each day alert to what God has prepared for us. Waking up knowing that He’s in control of all our steps, and that He’s with us every moment.

Well, I believe that the Lord wants that kind of life for us. He wants to be that kind of guide for our lives.

May we each be willing to follow Him wherever He leads. No matter how steep or treacherous our path before us, the safest place to be is in His steps. 1 Peter 2:21 says: “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.”
