Let your Faith be Bigger than your Fear

Peter and John Speak of Salvation through Jesus

Acts 4: 1-13, 17-20 Takes place after Jesus death, resurrection and ascension.

Key moments in the passage:

Peter and John Speaking to the People after healing a crippled man.

Leaders are disturbed by their teaching.

Peter and John are put in jail overnight.

The next morning, Peter and John continue to speak boldly.

Members of the council are amazed at their boldness, for they could see they were ordinary men without special training in the scriptures.

Peter and John are given a warning to stop speaking about Jesus

Peter and John respond, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”

The council threatened them further, but then let them go. (without punishing them)

Things to consider:

How did Peter and John feel? Afraid, Uneducated, Inferior OR Determined, Courageous, Committed. We don't know, but I would have been afraid. Our human emotions are from God and are NOT bad things.

The real question is, despite how they felt, how did they act? Determined, Courageous, Committed, Bold.

Does sharing about Jesus make you feel afraid or unqualified? If so, use this passage as an encouragement to be strong and confident. Even if on the inside we feel one way, we can choose to act a different way. The Holy Spirit will help you.

Be open to the Holy Spirits calling. Ask the Spirit to speak through you and share. It doesn’t have to be elaborate.

Couple truths to keep in mind:

  • Salvation comes only through Jesus
  • We are all Children of God

Amen!
