Friday Devotional - God is Holy and Powerful
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
We’ve been slowly walking through the Book of Psalms, this week we’re looking at Psalms 29. In this passage David is pointing out God’s holiness and power.
God is HOLY:
- God is spoken of as being “glorious in holiness” -Exodus 15:11
- God’s throne is called Holy -Psalm 47:8
- God dwells in a holy city -Revelation 21:2
- Day and night living creatures (angels) call attention to His holiness -Isaiah 6:3
We’re called to give glory to God too, (vs 1) us and the heavenly realm. This happens to be in our Pizza Ranch Vision statement. This same God, with all that’s happening in heaven even right now, desires us here today. To be with him in the heavenly hosts someday.
God’s voice is POWERFUL:
- The voice of the Lord is over everything, even the water (vs 3)
- God’s voice is like thunder (vs 3)
- It’s powerful (vs 4)
- It’s full of majesty (vs 4)
- It breaks and splinters wood (vs 5)
- It causes the trees and mountains to skip (vs 6)
- It’s wild (vs 6)
- It’s like forked fire/lightning (vs 7)
- It shakes the world (vs 8)
- It causes animals to give birth (vs 9)
- It strips the trees bare (vs 9)
What really caught my eye in this passage is that God sat enthroned like this back at the flood (vs 10), and that God still sits there now today and forever (vs 10).
No matter what, this holy and powerful God gives strength, blessings, and peace to His people (vs 11). An unexplainable strength and peace through all life’s battles. Thank you Lord!
I pray that each of us will recognize and claim Gods holiness and power in our lives.
