We’ve been slowly walking through the Book of Psalms, and this week we’re looking at (Psalm 40). The Psalms do such a great job of talking about the topics and emotions we most often deal with in life.

There’s so much in this chapter, each verse is full of wisdom we can soak in, use, and grab hold of daily.

What stood out to me in the passage was found in (Psalm 40:1-3). It says, “I waited patiently for the Lord; And he turned to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of the pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and then steadied me as I walked along. He has put a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.”

David was joyfully proclaiming God’s deliverance and faithfulness. He was singing about his relief from the horrible pit of despair. He shared his feelings with the people around him so that they would praise God too. He pointed others to God.

I remember feeling in such despair when one of our daughters passed away. I remember feeling like I was stuck in the mud with no way to get out. I struggled with my own feelings, but it was especially hard seeing my wife going through it. It was like we were plodding along with every step. Each person can remember, or are going through things now, that make them relate to this situation. It may be addiction, health issues, emotional issues, etc.

David wants to remind us today to go to God quickly, tell Him all that’s on our mind, handing it all over to Him…letting Him take it. Then to wait with expectation to see what He can do. David is telling us that God hears us and comes to us. It’s up to us to seek, see what He’s doing, and then to let everyone know what He has done.

May we each go to the Lord quickly, for and with anything. And then….MAY WE EACH POINT PEOPLE TO GOD.
